About the Artist: David Ralph, a full-time graphic artist for over 17 years, resides in Greenbelt, Maryland with his 2 children. David has been drawing and painting since he was a young child where wildlife and sport themes dominated his pictures. Presently, he is focusing his art more on abstract visual expression where shape, color, value and pattern take on more importance than the reality of the subject. His painting style has been greatly influenced by his profession as a graphic artist, and his love of abstract, geometric art.
His most recent series of paintings involve the female figure. The female figure — with its pleasing curves, lines, shapes and dimensions — is something that appeals to him at its most basic and instinctual level. In these images, he has attempted to abstract and distill those curves, lines and shapes which make up the female figure to their most elemental and geometric levels — and in the process, capture the true essence of the beauty he finds in the female figure. To him, the composition is the key. It reflects his inner sense of design and visual appeal. Through repetition of shape, contrast in value, balance of color, variation in size, and use of texture and pattern — he attempts to communicate his vision and passion for the subject he has chosen to paint. His goal is to make every shape a separate entity that compliments the whole, and he strives to put his heart and soul into every line, shape and curve in his figures. Currently, he is rediscovering his passion for sporting themes, and hopes to have a series completed soon.
